What is Weathertex?

Weathertex Suppliers

Weathertex Suppliers: External timber cladding is the preferred choice for many designers because of its natural aesthetic while still being durable with a low environmental impact. As the world moves towards more sustainably sourced products, timber continues to prove itself as the ideal material solution

Weathertex is a natural, long-lasting and eco-friendly timber product that is made up of 97% hardwood and 3% natural wax. This timber wood product is durable and water repellent, making it ideal for external timber cladding and outdoor applications.

The pressing process of Weathertex timber products helps to remove knots and other imperfections that are commonly found in traditional timber planks, creating a uniform thickness and adding overall strength and flexibility.

Why Weathertex?

Weathertex Suppliers

Weathertex places safety as a number one priority. This timber cladding has undergone extensive third-party testing to ensure compliance and is up to date with most building codes and standards. It has been tested to meet the strict fire requirements of the Building Code of Australia.

The unique manufacturing process of Weathertex, steam pulps and compresses hardwood fibre blends into a highly dense and durable exterior grade board product. No chemical additives are required for bonding and the final product retains the natural fire-resistant properties of the Australian hardwood timbers used.

Weathertex timber comes in both primed and natural. Primed comes pre-painted with a base coat and only needs a topcoat in order to finish the product, where the natural version is raw timber that needs to be treated as any other hardwood timber.

Our History

Weathertex Suppliers

We began Gowan Lea Timbers over 25 years ago when we decided to open a small retail yard for timber needs on the rapidly growing Sunshine Coast of Queensland. We started with two staff members, a forklift, a flat-bed truck, and an office in a shipping container, and as we grew, we gained a solid reputation for boasting the best hardwood around.

It didn’t take us by surprise. Our mill—Gowan Lea Sawmilling Company—had been operating for over 40 years and was already a well-respected wholesaler of premium quality western QLD Spotted Gum and Ironbark products. However, when the Queensland State Government bought out and closed Gowan Lea Sawmilling Company through a Regional Forestry Agreement process in 2007, the retail timber yard was left without a supply of the premium hardwood that our business relied upon.

It was then we entered into a productive relationship with Mary Valley Timbers, a green hardwood sawmill near Gympie, who had a similar focus on quality and cut 95% Spotted Gum and Ironbark.
