The Benefits?

Trex Composite Decking Sunshine Coast

Trex composite decking is one of the preferred outdoor timber alternatives for builders and designers alike, perfect for pool decking and flooring. This hardwood decking timber comes with a range of benefits, namely;

Safety: Trex timber requires no nails to install and secure, making it barefoot safe. Additionally, it is slip resistant making cleaning a breeze! As it is a wood alternative it does not splinter and safe to use for decking.

Eco-Friendly: One of the most important considerations when building, is the environment. In recent years people have become more aware of threats to the environment. Trex is made from 95% recycled materials and its manufacturing process is equally eco conscious.

Cost Effective: Although Trex timber is more costly, they prove to be a worthy investment. You may be able to find a cheaper product in the beginning but will cost you more in maintenance fees in the long run. Trex is a long lasting and durable material that will last for years to come. It is water resistant and low maintenance, making it ideal for outdoor construction projects.

Style and Aesthetic: In recent years, builders and designers are choosing to bring the outdoors indoors. By including natural elements add warm, neutral colours. The timber-look aesthetic adds a relaxing, contemporary feel to any project.

Strength: Trex is known to be a high performance timber. It is an extremely strong and durable material that lasts longer than most composite timbers. Where real timber wears down over time, Trex is able to withstand the harshest environments and weather conditions.

Trex Timber vs Traditional Timber

Trex Composite Decking Sunshine Coast

When it comes to composite decking material, consumers are spoilt for choice. Not only is there a wide range of timber species to choose from, but also have a variety of composite materials as well. Whether you’re looking to upgrade your tired-looking deck or planning on installing a new structure from scratch; deciding between different building materials can be tough.

Traditional timber has been a popular choice for construction projects for many years, however as the world moves towards eco-consciousness, the need for sustainable building materials have risen.  Despite timber being the traditional option, it hasn’t always been the most practical and affordable one. With composite decking timber offering less maintenance and higher durability, it is easy to see why this question exists.

Our History

Trex Composite Decking Sunshine Coast

We began Gowan Lea Timbers over 25 years ago when we decided to open a small retail yard for timber needs on the rapidly growing Sunshine Coast of Queensland. We started with two staff members, a forklift, a flat-bed truck, and an office in a shipping container, and as we grew, we gained a solid reputation for boasting the best hardwood around.

It didn’t take us by surprise. Our mill—Gowan Lea Sawmilling Company—had been operating for over 40 years and was already a well-respected wholesaler of premium quality western QLD Spotted Gum and Ironbark products. However, when the Queensland State Government bought out and closed Gowan Lea Sawmilling Company through a Regional Forestry Agreement process in 2007, the retail timber yard was left without a supply of the premium hardwood that our business relied upon.

It was then we entered into a productive relationship with Mary Valley Timbers, a green hardwood sawmill near Gympie, who had a similar focus on quality and cut 95% Spotted Gum and Ironbark.
