Noosa Boardwalk

Gowan Lea were contracted by Hutchinson Builders to supply all the timber for this $7M project on behalf of Noosa Shire Council. The boardwalk is approximately 400m long and an average of 2.4m wide with several larger viewing decks, seating areas etc.

The sub-frame is good old fashioned 200x75 (mostly) sawn Spotted Gum and Ironbark from our sawmill in the Mary Valley and treated to H4 using non-CCA chemicals at our treatment plant at Palmview. You can’t get much more local than that!!

The decking however is a new (to Australia) state-of-the-art timber called Accoya. It is basically plantation Radiata Pine from NZ which undergoes a special process called acetylation in The Netherlands which chemically modifies the timber to make it incredibly durable and stable outdoors with a 50yr guarantee!! Looks and feels like pine but lasts forever! Accoya has been big overseas for a long time and is just starting to take-off in Australia. In fact, this project will be one of the biggest Accoya projects yet undertaken in Australia, and the first that we know anywhere to use a sawn face. Approximately 7000m will be supplied machined to 145x35.

It’s our biggest project to date and we are very pleased to have been able to keep up with Hutchies cracking pace!! The project is on track for completion before the start of the Christmas school holidays.
